So, I’ve decided to start a new series here, because I seriously can’t keep these weird vintage photos to myself anymore. 🙂

Every time I go through my old magazines, I am astonished at some of the things that Editors thought was good enough to allow in their publications. Most of the time, it’s been really politically incorrect vintage advertising that’s the culprit. I have some doozies to share with you in future on that front! Especially old cigarette ads – some of them are just jaw droppingly inappropriate. Oh – and the shockingly racist greeting cards? Got those, too.

But today I’m going to share with you some really, really BAD vintage fashion:

Weird Vintage Fashion - Does this dress make my butt look big?

I just don’t even know where to start with this dress. It was from the 1920’s, which you can see from her flapper style hair. This is well after the bustle went out of style… but this dress isn’t even how a usual bustle would appear. Instead it takes her hips, makes them a mile wide, and then further humiliates the wearer by putting her in a tulle shawl that would make it impossible for this woman to walk down the street without hitting everyone she passes by.

In case you think this is some kind of conceptual fashion, as in a runway design – nope. This dress was available as a sewing pattern. I kid you not. Methinks they didn’t sell too many of these!
