Vintage Summer Olympics Postage Stamp Art
Like many of you, I’ve been totally swept up in Olympics fever these days. 2012 London is soooo different than the Beijing games 4 years ago! But I’m loving it all! I still have my fingers crossed that Michael Phelps will pull off a medal or two. Though things aren’t looking good thus far. My favorite events are the boating events – kayaking/canoeing, rowing, and sailing. Unfortunately, these don’t seem to get nearly as much air time as the more popular swimming and gymnastics events. So I’ve been having to watch my sports on my Olympics Android app. Not to be ungrateful or anything… but it’s not quite the same as HD. (First world problems, I know.)
Last year I bought a whole bunch of old stamps off of Etsy – and lucked out in scoring a whole bunch of vintage Olympics postage stamps. I actually have enough to share three sets with you this week!! This is the ‘blue and green’ set, all from Olympics held in the 1960s – Rome 1960, Tokyo 1964, and Mexico 1968. I also have a ‘orange and yellow’ set, plus a really unusual set of colorful oversized stamps from the 1972 Munich Games issued from the tiny African country of Equatorial Guinea. So come back later this week for more vintage Olympics goodies!
