Vintage Industrial Steampunk Clock Drawing – With a Free *Vector* Download!

Welcome to Day 14 of 25 Days of Vintage Spring Pictures and Clip Art! And a Super-Special Freebie Download!
When I woke up this morning and realized that Daylight Savings is tomorrow, I almost freaked out. How did winter go by so fast this year? I’m not complainin’… it’s just a little spooky. So, I had this image of a gorgeous 1885 clock from an industrial engineering magazine, and I figured it was the perfect image to share today in my vintage spring clip art series – because nothing signals that spring is on the way like changing the clocks!!
So, as I was trying to save this image into a web-friendly format, I was kind of sad about how much image detail was getting lost in the conversion process. It is almost always no big deal, but this image in particular is incredibly precise and detailed – because engineers are kind of precise and detailed kinds of people, ya know? I really wanted to do justice to this drawing which came from the tail end of the Industrial Revolution. You can see compared to the above image, just how much is getting lost in the translation here:

Vintage Clock Vector Clip Art Detail
So I decided I wanted to release this image not just as a high-resolution free download, but as a 100% scalable vector file. That means that no matter what size you want to print out this vintage clock, (1 inch or 500 inches), the drawing will remain clear, crisp, and beautiful, the way the original artist intended. Here is the PDF link for the industrial vintage clock illustration.

How to: Aged Paper Decoupage DIY Table Refinishing Project @ Vintage Fangirl
[...] I created the artwork for this product from one of my vintage books – I scanned an old engineering schematic drawing of a late 1800′s boat, brought it into Illustrator to turn it into a scalable vector drawing, and then blew it up to the size of my table leaves. I had to create three panels, each about 18 inches wide by 52 inches tall. Since I don’t have a large-format printer, I emailed the files to a FedEx/Kinko’s location and had them print them out on simple, everyday 24 lb printer paper. Total cost for all three panels was less than $25. Score. Side note: I have one free vector download on the site – it is from the same 1888 engineering book and it is of a lovely old clock face. [...]
