I couldn’t decide if this adorable Merrick Thread trade card ad should go into my Easter vintage image series or this spring series. I decided to keep it in the spring series because thread isn’t very Easter-ish. This late 1800′s trade card is one of my favorites – I really have a ‘thing’ for sewing antiques. Interestingly, this very thread and thread company was the subject of a Supreme Court ruling when J & P Coats tried to sue Merrick because they had a similar label on the end. J & P Coats didn’t get anywhere with it – considering the company name MERRICK THREAD CO. is right there on the outermost ring of the worded label. I have a hard time imagining that lawsuit making it to the Supreme Court in this day and age. ;)
