Lovely Illustration of a Revolutionary War Couple Saying Goodbye

Vintage Patriotic and Summer Art Images, Clip Art, and Printables

Welcome to Day 24 of 25 Days of Vintage Summer and Patriotic Art!

This illustration actually comes from a late 1880′s advertising trade card, but the content is from the 1770′s! The couple in this image are clearly from the American Revolutionary War era by the way they are dressed. Not many men wearing powdered wigs and carrying a musket could be from any other time. ;) I’m guessing the gentleman is going off to war and is perhaps hoping this beautiful young lady will be waiting for him when he returns.

OR… (I just noticed this while writing this…) that could be George and Martha Washington (those do look like cherry blossoms around them). I unfortunately really have no way of knowing. But I can tell you that Martha Washington was a downright foxy lady in her day – check her out!
