Antique French Fashion Plate from 1901
Over the last few weeks, I’ve posted some amazing vintage French ephemera images from a magazine called Plaisir de France. This thing is a gorgeous book sized publication of the most amazing eye candy I’ve ever seen in a vintage magazine. In it, there is a whole section of removable reproduction vintage fashion plates ranging from the 1600’s to the 1930’s. Each is printed on a piece of fine linen card stock and are only glued into the pages of the magazine by the corners, so that they can be removed and framed. I have to say this is one of my luckiest vintage image finds so far!
This particular fashion plate is from 1901 – from what I can tell in the caption, this is a plate portraying socialite Sara Mayer’s outfit for a garden party. These were advertisements for various designs from French fashion houses! Since I don’t know French, I’m pretty sure the name of this particular fashion house was “Les Grandes Modes de Paris”. But please correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve included a version with the original French text, and one with just the beautiful French girl dressed in her finest.
